Sans-titre n.48 capitalizes on the fissure created by the passage of Autoroute Ville-Marie, hugging the ground around the métro station and that of the height of Champ de Mars in order to reconnect these two currently isolated components… Sans-titre n.48 can be viewed and appreciated by the public in multiple ways. One might glimpse the bones or hind legs of a horse, which recall the history of Vieux-Montréal; or the composition could be seen as an automatiste sculpture, illustrating the rich visual arts history of Québec from the 1950s; or it might be a leg for stepping across the space, a bandage dressing the urban scar and echoing the future hospital.”

“The mysterious aspect of this project appealed to the jury. An object lies on top of the expressway trench, lending itself to a diversity of functions. The structure is defined by shapes found in the glassworks by Marcelle Ferron. Its rounded forms define a public square that is organic, partially covered and highly versatile. The clear and inspired text drew members’ attention.”
