Saint-Michel Environmental Complex Soccer Complex

Architecture Competition

The Ville de Montréal is holding a two-stage architectural competition for the purpose of constructing a soccer complex, including a building (the Indoor Soccer Centre) in the sports area of the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex (SMEC).

Purpose of the competition

For the last 15 years, the Ville has been in the process converting the former Miron quarry and landfill site into a major urban park. The development master plan calls for sports facilities to be concentrated along Avenue Papineau, where the TAZ skate park.

The Ville plans to build a covered stadium with stands (1,000 seats) and, at a later stage, an outdoor playing field.

The architectural vision shall clearly reflect the intended use of the building as well as its ecological objectives. Harmoniously integrated with the park of the SMEC, the building is intended as a model of sustainable development, targeting the LEED-NC "Gold" certification.

Type of competition

This competition is open and will be run in two stages.

Stage 1 - Call for proposals:
All contestants are asked to register and submit their proposals in response to the architectural program that has been set out. The jury will select four proposals; those submitting these proposals will then be asked to take part in Stage 2 as finalists on the basis of the proposed option. This first stage is anonymous and unremunerated.

Stage 2 - Provision of plans:
This stage consists of presenting a concept/sketch and a team. During this stage, the submission must include a summary file describing the make-up of the team and the experience of its members, as well as the individuals, companies or other entities joining the finalist in setting out a plan, as the case may be. The team must include a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) specialist.
