Official opening of the Montreal Soccer Stadium and its public artwork.
The Stade de soccer de Montréal (Montréal soccer stadium) has been open since April 2015.
A foretaste of the stadium and its features (in French):
Construction work is proceeding well. The project team is currently working on the engineering challenge of installing the roof structure, which will be supported by enormous wooden beams. It’s a spectacular operation! Watch them at work in this video (in French).
The plans and specifications are 95% ready.
In this video, a variety of people explain their common vision for the complex. They talk about the background and ideas behind the project and describe the architecture competition central to the process (in French).
Since January 2012, Saucier + Perrotte and HCMA, the team that won the architecture competition, has been collaborating with the whole project team to finalize the architectural concept for this sports facility. The aim is to create an architectural showpiece for Montréal.
Two draft by-laws were submitted to the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) for this purpose, and public hearings were held in the spring.
In its report, the OCPM said from the start that it was in favour of the project. This reflected the unanimous opinion of the individuals and organizations that submitted their views during the public consultation process. In addition to supporting the main goals of the project, the report emphasized the challenge of preserving the project’s architectural quality.
