The Borough of Saint-Laurent is launching a Québec-wide architecture competition for a new sports complex to be built at 2385, boulevard Thimens, and to include a soccer pitch, swimming pool, gymnasium and gymnastics palestra, a surface area of approximately 14,520 m2 gross.
The purpose of the competition is to select a distinctive project and retain the professional services of architects and engineers for the design of the new building and monitoring of the construction work.
The dynamic growth in Saint-Laurent’s population in the past few years—it has now reached nearly 90,000—means that demand for sports activities is also constantly growing.
The project is part of the Building Montréal, UNESCO City of Design initiative and is receiving financial support from the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, the Ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l’Occupation du territoire, the Conférence régionale des élus de Montréal, and the Ville de Montréal.

- Held in two stages: The first by application and the second, by paid services submitted by four (4) finalists.
Stage1
Call for candidates for shortlisting of four finalists.
Stage 2
Funded concept development by each finalist team and selection of a winner.
To be eligible, teams must comprise:
- an architect holding a valid licence to practice issued by the Ordre des architectes du Québec at least 10 years ago;
- at least one engineer / project manager per discipline (structural, civil and mechanical/electrical) who has been a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec for at least 10 years;
- LEED Canada Accredited Professionals, in both architecture and mechanical/electrical engineering; and
- a landscape architect or urban designer.
The jury, which is the same for both stages, comprises the following individuals:

The competition documents (regulations and summary program) are free and may be picked up in person at the Bureau du citoyen de l’arrondissement de Saint-Laurent Borough Citizens’ Office, between August 6 and August 26, 2010, during regular office hours, i.e., from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. 4:30 p.m.
The documents may also be received by e-mail, on the condition that they are requested by e-mail, specifying the requester’s name, address and telephone number, at the following address: @email.
Registration at the Bureau du citoyen de l’arrondissement de Saint-Laurent as well as with the competition’s professional advisor is mandatory; the registration form is included in the competition regulations. The acknowledgment of receipt (proof of registration with the citizens’ office) and the registration form must be returned to the professional advisor no later than August 26, 2010.
