Forest Forest

“Forest forest is a little corner of dreamscape; a forest excursion at the exit of St-Laurent metro station. Levelled ground ready to accommodate snow, trees of different shapes and species, like a wooden construction set, a marked trail, sound-producing trunks you can put your ear up to, heated and colourful stumps to sit on, illuminated trees, a clearing. Forest forest offers a new space where metro users, residents, and passersby can stroll. We propose creating a new topography that invites exploration and a retreat from the city’s hubbub. The forest emits an ambient sound by way of speakers hidden in the trunks of certain trees. They are an invitation to come close and partake of the life of the forest.”

“The jury liked the installation because it inhabited the space very well. The intimate and poetic experience is suitable for the site’s scale. The jury stressed the pure and graphical aesthetic of the project, which plays evocatively with imaginary and symbolic forms. The idea of metal trees in winter is seductive, and the forest ambiance is conveyed successfully. The interactive strategy of having whispers come from the hollow of a tree is creative and subtle, it integrates into the environment, and takes into account the presence of local residents. The experience slows down users transiting the site, and it entices walkers to take a detour through the forest.”
