PECHAKUCHA UNESCO CITIES OF DESIGN – SPECIAL EDITION
The PechaKucha UNESCO Cities of Design – Special Edition was organized as a meet and greet event within the framework of the Annual Meeting of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, in collaboration with PechaKucha Night Montréal. The purpose of the event was to present to members of Montréal’s design, fashion and architecture community, the work and creative process of an iconic designer who has contributed to the reputation and pride of each of the following cities: Beijing, Buenos Aires, Graz, Kobe, Nagoya, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Seoul and Saint-Étienne.
Montreal, was e represented by Sylvie Berkowicz, through a conference titled Le design montréalais au quotidien (Everyday Montreal Design).
PechaKucha events are veritable interdisciplinary exchange and meeting platforms organized with the goal of providing a public forum for researchers, creators and thinkers in all horizons. Participants present projects that have been completed, are under way or are still at the dream and idea stage. Presenters share their thoughts, creative processes and even their inspiration. The concept is a simple one: each participant presents 20 images with 20 seconds to comment on each one, making for rich and concise presentations.
GUIDED TOUR OF THE MONTRÉAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS COLLECTIONS
The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is home to one of North America’s most important collections of 20th-century international design. This spectacular collection bears the names of the founders of the Montréal Museum of Decorative Arts, Liliane and David M. Stewart, whose donation placed the MMFA among the greatest museums of decorative arts in Canada and the United States. The extended decorative arts and design collection was featured, with a sculpture garden also inaugurated on the occasion of the visit by UNESCO Creative Cities delegates.
