Economic Development Commissioner (Design Commissioner)

Your mandate

You will contribute to implementing initiatives that leverage design as a tool for Montréal's economic development, in particular with an view to supporting the growth, diversification and influence of businesses in the city’s design and architecture ecosystem. You will advise, supervise and play a part in the implementation of initiatives by the Service du développement économique, other city departments and the boroughs to encourage the use of the design process  to achieve sustainable development objectives. You will keep an eye open for opportunities, practices and promising niches to be incorporated into municipal plans and policies. You will be responsible for assessing the impact of your projects, and for promoting them and transferring the knowledge acquired to municipal employees, design professionals and the general public.

More specifically, you will : 

  • participate in developing strategies to support the design sector, formulate recommendations and oversee the implementation of the resulting initiatives;
  • collaborate with the city’s internal departments and partners on projects and studies that require innovative design processes;
  • prepare decision-making files, presentation documents and specifications, coordinate calls for tenders, follow up and ensure external specialists’ compliance with contractual commitments;
  • plan the communication of Bureau du design projects and their benefits to internal and external partners, as well as on its platform: https://designmontreal.com/en.
