September 4, 2015, marked the official inauguration of the new Saul Bellow Library in the Borough of Lachine, following renovations and expansion by the firm Chevalier Morales architectes, selected via an architecture competition. With its state-of-the-art facilities and modern design, the multifunctional library is a revitalized space for reading, study, leisure and exchanges among residents. Open to its community, the building has become a resplendent cultural and social hub in the very heart of the borough.

Since the library was opened to the public on May 2, 2015, daily traffic has increased by 44% over 2011, the last year in which the former library was open. Loans are up by 25%, and membership has jumped by 35%. Following the extensive work, the library’s floor area has doubled, and the building is awaiting LEED certification.
