Saul-Bellow Library

Architecture Competition

The expansion and redevelopment of the Saul Bellow Library in Lachine borough will be subject to a two-stage architectural competition.

Object of the competition

The building that is currently the site of the Saul Bellow Library was originally built to house the Lachine municipal library. It is located at the corner of 32e Avenue, a principal civic artery of Lachine, and Rue Saint-Antoine. The competition project consists in expanding and redeveloping the building (which dates from 1974) and bringing it up to code, while preserving the existing structure and parking facility. The aim is to modernize the building and make it a library for the 21st century.

The project is also targeting LEED Gold certification and is meant to serve as a model of sustainable development.
