May 27 to 29, 2014 The CODE SOUVENIR MONTRÉAL pop-up store: Showcasing Montréal creativity at its best!

Montreal, April 22, 2014 – From May 27 to 29, the Ville de Montréal’s Bureau du design is once again bringing its CODE SOUVENIR MONTRÉAL boutique to the C2MTL event.

The pop-up store, which promotes Montréal’s creative talents, will feature 41 designers in attendance, including some 20 newcomers, presenting more than 150 products in all. More lively and inspiring than ever, the CODE SOUVENIR MONTRÉAL retail location is a dynamic showcase that offers visitors the chance to appreciate the full scope of Montréal designers’ talents—and, perhaps, take home a one-of-a-kind item that can only be found here.

“The CODE SOUVENIR boutique is an initiative aimed at promoting the work of local designers in order to help them broaden their reputations and to affirm to all C2MTL participants the authenticity of Montréal, UNESCO City of Design,” said Manon Gauthier, Ville de Montréal Executive Committee Member responsible for Culture, Heritage, Design, Space for Life and the Status of Women. “This is a unique showcase and I encourage all visitors to enjoy meeting the designers and making exciting discoveries.”

Original discoveries with a distinctive Montréal character

The creations on display will include products for all tastes, ranging from practical items to fashion accessories to edible delights. Among them: ultra-contemporary desk accessories, laser-carved from offcut pieces of acrylic, by Atelier-D; and a set of salt and pepper shakers in porcelain, by Ceramik B. Les Charlatans, meanwhile, offer craft syrups to enhance both savoury and sweet dishes, Paperole Stationery reveals Montréal through fancifully illustrated postcards, and String Theory unwraps scarves and shawls with patterns created using computer-aided design.

The pop-up store will show off a substantial range of beautiful objects, each of which springs from the imagination of local designers. The latter were all selected for inclusion in the CODE SOUVENIR MONTRÉAL catalogue following a call for proposals issued to designer-producers and publishers.

The purpose of the catalogue is to encourage public-sector organizations as well as private companies to procure products emblematic of Montréal, UNESCO City of Design, as corporate gifts, promotional items and souvenirs for prestigious guests. It is therefore a practical, relevant marketing tool.
By choosing these items, public and private institutional buyers can add a trend-forward touch to their brands, while helping promote made-in-Montréal creativity far and wide and generating business for local designers. What could be more in the spirit of C2MTL than that! Moreover, the launch of the brand-new edition of the CODE SOUVENIR MONTRÉAL gift catalogue will take place on the opening day of C2MTL.

Meetings with local creative talents

New this year, the pop-up store will offer a venue for exchanges and interaction with the featured designers. Throughout the event, in a dedicated space, visitors will have the chance to hear them talk about their creations, sources of inspiration and working methods as part of a predetermined program of presentations. Expect some memorable meetings!
