Pointe-aux-Trembles Library and Huneault design + collaboration (industrial and social design) with Félix-Leclerc elementary school

Winner

Co-design of a mobile library presentation space

In an effort to expand its activities outside its walls, the Pointe-aux-Trembles library asked elementary cycle 3 students to imagine and design a mobile presentation space for the library. Two activity components took place from November 2016 to March 2017: a series of four brainstorming and design workshops, and an exhibition of the students’ proposals at the library. The community at large was asked to pick its favourite project.

Led through the process by designer Jessica Huneault, the students learned about the basic principles and vocabulary of industrial design. Among other concepts, they learned about the notion of scale and about different materials’ characteristics and properties.

The project also built ties between the school and the Pointe-aux-Trembles library and helped to foster students’ sense of belonging to their local library.
