Panel discussions: An art to discover

This awareness project invites Grade 6 students as well as library staff and managers to be part of the design process for a free-standing, modular structure that can be used to close off a space or make it into a display space for books, posters, photos, etc.

Six co-design workshops were organized in November and December 2016. The woodworker-designer provided support and guidance to the group in thinking about design overall, and specifically furniture design, inspired by the following topics: the function of objects, materials, graphic design, design and decoration of the panels, screenprinting (two workshops).

Simultaneously, the designer created and has continued to host a website enabling progress on the work to be monitored, providing for exchanges with participants (forum), and extending the scope of the project to encompass a wider audience. In that vein, an exhibition of the furniture and a public conference in the spring of 2017 will provide the opportunity to review the project in its entirety and unveil the final result.
